I read an article in the paper recently about the pigeons and the seagulls that terrorise this fine capital city of ours, about how we used to see them as our friends and how we see them more now as annoyances, nuisances flapping out of the sky to steal our hard-earned french fries right out of our hands. I don't see the birds like this. Animals are here on this planet with us, and as much as we like to see ourselves as its rightful conquerors, building edifices to our greatness so tall they poke through the tops of the clouds themselves, the animals were here first and they'll be here long after we're gone. It seems like that will be sooner rather than later, to watch the news. The seagulls don't watch the news. The seagulls only care about your fries. I hope this picture inspires you to share them with the birds someday.
